Anybody else notice that upon checking Sitemeter and changing pages, they get a popup ad in the background?
Update:
Fuzz commented on something I neglected to mention. Whatever they are doing is different enough that it works on Firefox, which is how I noticed it.
Posted by triticale at December 11, 2004 09:43 PMYeah! And I'm running Firefox which normally blocks ALL pop-ups. It must be coded in flash somewhere on the page. Who knows.
Posted by: Fuzz Martin at December 11, 2004 11:44 PMFirefox, yeah baby!
Posted by: Janellesong at December 12, 2004 06:41 PMSince I have been so neglectful in visiting everyone else, I didn't want to see that no one was visiting me, so I haven't checked Sitemeter for a while. *grin*
However, I have gotten popups in Firefox from Drudge's site periodically... very annoying. It's one really good reason not to go there often.
Posted by: Teresa at December 12, 2004 08:45 PMI've gotten pop-unders from Drudge and the NYT in Firefox, too.
Fortunately, whomever's discovered the means to thwart the blocking technique hasn't disseminated the information yet. Seems limited, as far as Sitemeter goes, to Network Solutions.
Posted by: Brian J. at December 13, 2004 04:15 PMThat doesn't sound good. I am enjoying Firefox and Homeland Security sure recommends it. I will stay away from sites mentioned thus far.
Thanks, Janellesong

Posted by: Fuzz Martin at December 13, 2004 06:06 PMHOLD THE PRESSES! I found the Firefox plugin that blocks flash pop-ups. It is appropriately titled "flashblock."
